Jay Leng Jr. has gone through plenty of changes in the past three months.
The junior at Stanford won the Western Amateur and then finished runner-up at the U.S. Amateur. He later represented the red, white and blue on the U.S. Walker Cup team in Ireland. Oh, and he made his PGA Tour debut.
Now, he's breaking barriers in the Name, Image and Likeness space.
World Wide Technology, which is sponsoring this week's PGA Tour event at El Cardonal in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, has partnered with Leng on an NIL deal that will see him wear the WWT logo on his apparel at all PGA Tour and non-collegiate sanctioned events. Leng is the eighth golfer to don the WWT logo but first amateur to do so.
"I'm really excited to be their first NIL ambassador," Leng said. "I know
it's not easy to trust a 21-year-old to be an ambassador, but I am glad they see a future for me and I'm grateful for the opportunities."
Other WWT golf ambassadors include Billy Andrade, Ben Griffin, Luke Donald, Austin Eckroat, Keith Mitchell, Taylor Pendrith and Justin Suh. Griffin is the defending champion at the WWT Championship.
Matt Horner, the Executive Vice President of WWT, told Golfweek the way Leng carried himself and the opportunities he presented with a partnership were too good to pass up.
Leng will wear the logo at the Masters Tournament and the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach next year. That, in addition to whatever amateur accolades he may collect in the time being, was a perfect opportunity for partnership.
"I think it's great for us to be able to partner with an athlete like this early on," Horner said. "We're excited to see Jay blossom and continue to grow."
Leng is making his second PGA Tour start this week at El Cardonal looking for his first made cut. He'll do so with a new sponsor on his clothing.
