There was talk leading into the Butterfield Bermuda Championship regarding the golf course and the weather.
The shortest course on the PGA Tour's schedule was also the 14th most difficult a year ago, largely because the strong winds that can batter the layout at Port Royal, which has many holes playing along the ocean in Southampton, Bermuda.
Thursday's first round, though, was more mild than usual. Most golfers kept their hats on as the winds didn't whip up just yet (but batten down the hatches because fierce winds are expected this weekend).
Weather conditions aside, golf is never easy. See: Kevin Yu's experience with the par-5 second hole in the first round.

He pumped his first two drives out-of-bounds right, then his fifth in play but in the rough. His sixth found a bunker near the green and his seventh cleared a bunker on the back of the green. He was finally putting after his eighth shot and then two strokes later, he was in for a 10.
After that, he settled in, posting five birdies to offset a pair of bogeys. He ultimately signed for a 3-over 74 but clearly all the damage was done on that second hole. At the time Yu finished, there was only one posted score that was worse, and that was the 4-over 75 from defending champion Adam Schenk.
Yu, a one-time winner on the PGA Tour, is battling to stay inside the top 100 for 2027. He currently sits at 92nd.
