The Piper, a nine-hole par-3 course designed by Ken Baker, officially opened Oct. 2 at Legends Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Built on 12 acres behind the resort’s clubhouse, The Piper features holes ranging from 54 to 120 yards.
The course includes three-hole loops so that golfers can play three, six or nine holes. With lights and music, plus a restored red telephone booth that was used at the resort in the 1990s and is now the starter’s box, The Piper is intended to create a new social experience at the resort. The short course’s name is a nod to wandering musicians of Scottish folklore.
Legends Golf Resort was already home to three full-size courses: Heathland, Moorland and Parkland. Moorland is ranked by Golfweek’s Best as tied
for the 11th-best public-access course in South Carolina, and Heathland is No. 18 on that list.
