MEMPHIS, TN — Scottie Scheffler tied the TPC Southwind course record Friday, Aug. 14, with a scintillating second-round 9-under 61 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
In doing so, the No. 1 golfer in the world rocketed to the top of the leaderboard in Memphis, sitting at 11 under after two days to grab a three-stroke lead over Sungjae Im.
Scheffler’s masterful round started with five straight birdies and 11 overall. It also included a pair of bogeys (one on the front nine and one on the back).
The 30-year-old Texan shot out of the gate on fire, ripping off a string of five consecutive birdies. He also birdied six of his first seven holes and seven of the first 10. After making par on No. 11, and bogey on the 12th (after finding the water off the tee),
he settled back into a groove, making birdies on three of the last four holes. His birdie putt on 18 came up just eight inches short.
Scheffler’s 61 is the fifth time a professional golfer has hit that mark since the course opened in 1989. Justin Rose accomplished the feat in 2023. Tom Lewis did it in 2020, while Bob Estes did it in 2001. Jay Delsing was the first to card a 61 at TPC Southwind, doing so in 1993 (when it was a par 71 course).
It's also the 17th score of 61 or better on the PGA Tour in 2026.
