Miyu Yamashita, one of the smallest players in the game, loomed large in Canada. The 4-foot-11 powerhouse dominated the field at the CPKC Women's Open in style, finishing at 23-udder 257 to tie an LPGA scoring record and win by nine.
"I was nervous," Yamashita said after the round without the aid of an interpreter. "My shot, my game, I trust my swing."
Yamashita went back to Japan to work with her father, who doubles as her instructor, and the results were undeniable. One of the most precise players on tour, Yamashita picked apart Royal Mayfair Golf Club with an opening 62 and never looked back. She added rounds of 64-65-66 to finish at 23-under 257, nine ahead of compatriot Yuri Yoshida, a woman who had missed her last six cuts.

Yamashita tied a record set by Sei Young Kim at the 2018 Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic. Kim, by the way, finished solo third in Edmonton, Alberta.
The home crowd had much to cheer about as two Canadian teens finish in the top 10. Anna Huang, a 17-year-old pro who has won four times on the LET, closed with a 65 to finish in a share of fourth. Aphrodite Deng, a 16-year-old amateur, took a share of seventh with a birdie on the last hole. Both are into the field for next week's FM Championship.
"I'm really happy that I played well in front of the best in the world," said Huang, "and hopefully I can continue doing that."
Former Duke player Gina Kim won the Dow Championship, a team event, earlier this year with Yana Wilson but missed her last six cuts on the LPGA. Kim, playing in the last group, had an eventful final round that included a drop from the coffee station of a hospitality tent. A closing 71 gave her a share of fourth.

American Alison Lee needed a strong finish to automatically qualify for the Solheim Cup team and she delivered, taking a share of 13th to lock up the final spot off the Rolex Rankings.
Kiara Romero, making her professional debut after earning her card via the LPGA LEAP program, struggled down the stretch in four over in the last three holes to drop to a share of 23rd. She earned $25,670.
