Bent Tree Golf Club is not closing just for the playing season in the middle of November. It is closing for good.
The public golf course in Sunbury announced on Nov. 2 that it will shut down after Nov. 16, ending more than three decades of operation.
"To everyone who has supported Bent Tree over the past three decades: thank you," the club wrote on social media. "Whether you played every week, celebrated a special occasion with us, or joined us for an occasional round, you have been part of our story. To our team members, past and present, thank you for the care and dedication you brought to this special place.
"We are deeply grateful for the years we have spent together.
We invite you to join us for a final round before we close − to revisit a favorite hole, share a memory, and enjoy time with friends."
B.R. Koehnemann, the director of corporate communications for KemperSports–the parent company that manages Bent Tree–provided the following statement to the Dispatch via email when asked about the closure: “We are grateful to all of the loyal golfers and team members who have been part of the Bent Tree experience and for the opportunity to have served the community. We remain committed the Columbus community through our work with other properties in the market.”
Located in Berkshire Township, Bent Tree opened in 1989. The club has one event left on its calendar on the website: a Chili Open on Nov. 14, a four-person scramble costing $80 per golfer with prizes and a chili buffet after golf.
"What a fun golf course! Played dozens of rounds here, sad to see it close," wrote one commenter on Instagram.
"We need more golf courses not fewer... sad to see it go," wrote another.
