The Deep Dive: After entering the driver category with the Ignis D1, Finnish direct-to-consumer brand Takomo is broadening the family with a club
that emphasizes forgiveness and easy launch.
The D2 pairs a lightweight carbon-fiber crown with a body made from HST160C high-strength titanium alloy. Using carbon fiber on top of the club saves weight that can be repositioned elsewhere in the head, helping designers increase stability and encourage a higher launch. The full-size, 460-cubic-centimeter shape should also inspire more confidence at address and help protect ball speed when contact wanders away from the center of the face.
Takomo designed the D2 to generate consistent spin and keep shots airborne longer, which can help golfers produce more carry distance. That combination should make it especially appealing to players whose drives tend to fly too low or drop out of the air prematurely.
The eight-position hosel gives golfers several ways to adjust the D2 without turning the fitting process into advanced calculus. Right-handed players can increase or decrease the stated loft by as much as 2 degrees, with several settings also making the lie angle more upright. The effects are reversed for left-handed golfers.
Takomo installs a 2-gram weight in the head and includes an 8-gram alternative. Swapping in the heavier weight can increase the club’s overall weight and swing weight, potentially helping golfers who prefer to feel the head more clearly during the swing.
