Fans of the Boston Celtics may have noticed a gradual but steady uptick in players on the team picking up the sport of golf. And now another new arrival will fortify that cadre of golfing aficionados currently signed to the team, with vet forward Paul George letting it be known that he also partakes in the popular Celtics sport at his first Media Day as a member of Boston's roster.
George also revealed he has been playing with longtime Celtics guard Derrick White and fellow new Boston vet Mike Conley since arriving in the city.
"We've done a couple golf outings and they're really good," said the Fresno State alum. "I'm looking forward to a year of getting out and playing some golf with them."
"(They) are really, really good," said PG-13. "Usually,
when I first got into it, there was always coaching staff, and maybe player development guys that play, but never this many guys that actually play on the team."
"(I'm) looking forward to it for someone that's new into the sport to learn from those guys, obviously bigger guys," said George. "I played with all my friends and they're smaller than me, but to see guys my size be able to swing and make good contact ... it's good for me."
As to when he started playing, PG-13 shared it was "during the pandemic." "But it was that weird time of (when) I don't think I'm a golfer because I'm not good. I put it down, and then picked it up maybe like three years ago, and then the bug just hit me there."
