The PGA Tour is reportedly on the verge of signing an eight-figure sponsorship deal with a major brand heading into the 2027 season.
Sports Business Journal reported Thursday that PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp is closing in on a deal with Visa for the company to sponsor the Tour Championship beginning in 2028 and three Challenger Series events. The deal is expected to be one of Visa's largest spends in sports, SBJ reported, citing sources.
Visa would become an official marketing partner of the Tour, SBJ reported, in addition to dishing out possibly more money to the Tour than Visa’s sponsorships of FIFA for the World Cup or the International Olympic Committee.
If signed, the deal would be the largest during Rolapp's tenure. SBJ reports the Tour was
trying to sign a handful of deals similar to Visa and pictured the Tour Championship having multiple sponsors, similar to the Players Championship.
There are expected to be 20 Challenger Series events, with Visa sponsoring three of those. SBJ reports industry sources have questioned whether the Tour would be able to sell sponsorships for the Challenger Series events, with the best players competing on the Championship Series.
The PGA Tour is expected to announce its Championship Series schedule in February, while the Challenger Series will come later in 2027.
Visa also reportedly enters the fold as FedEx's sponsorship of the PGA Tour is set to expire at the end of 2027. FedEx is the title sponsor of the Tour's season-long points race, its Tour Championship trophy, and of the first playoff event in Memphis.
