Golf is what they do, it's not who they are. That couldn't be more true of the 132 competitors in the 39th U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur.
It's one of 15 national championships conducted by the U.S. Golf Association. To qualify, "female golfers must be at least 25 years old by the start of the championship and hold a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 9.4," according to the USGA.
The USGA put together a great video with a number of the golfers telling viewers their names and what they do for a living. It's a wide variety of occupations including sales reps, data analysts, chemical engineers, college head coaches, dermatologic surgeons, aviation attorneys, graphic designers and even a pregnant stay-at-home mom.

The oldest competitors are a quartet of women in their 60s: Mercedese Large (63), Judith Kyrinis (62), Brenda Kuehn (61) and Kathy Hartwiger (60).
The youngest are nine 25-year-olds. Jensen Jalufka will officially be the youngest in the field as she turns 25 just one day before the start of the championship.
Montclair Golf Club in West Orange, New Jersey, is the host venue. The event started Saturday, Aug. 29, and runs through Sept. 3, 2026.
