Is LIV's winningest player going to be a part of the next version of the league? Joaquin Niemann hasn't committed yet.
The Chilean star, who has nine victories on LIV Golf, was asked Sunday about what his future looks like on LIV after finishing T-21 at the DP World Tour's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth outside of London. When asked whether he had pledged to play on LIV 2.0 in 2027, which is set to feature 10 events with smaller purses and larger fields, Niemann told Golf Digest, "No, nothing yet."
The question stemmed from whether the 27-year-old was on LIV's latest call with CEO Scott O'Neil, which Niemann said he was not because it was in the middle of his play in the second round on Friday. Niemann said he hasn't been on the previous calls,
either, because he has been focused on his game, but the calls have been ocurring nearly every Friday to keep players informed of what's to come.
Niemann would go on to say he has no idea what is going on with LIV. "I mean, I wish to say something, but I have no idea," he continued.
The league's future has been questioned since bankruptcy filings earlier this month. Numerous players have been asked about their plans, but Niemann has been the most forward saying he has not committed to LIV 2.0 while keeping the door open to be involved in the future.
On Sunday, Bryson DeChambeau teased a Monday announcement at 1 p.m. eastern in a social media post saying he was coming home. Whether it's a cryptic post teasing a new YouTube video or something about his playing future will remain a mystery for at least another day.
As for Niemann, he's one of many players waiting to see how the next chapter of LIV will unfold before making a decision.
