As many as 60 golf carts were destroyed after a structure fire at a Sacramento golf course.
Teal Bend Golf Course, located near the Sacramento airport, had the carts in overnight storage. Firefighters reportedly responded at 2 a.m. to the scene.
TV station ABC-10 interviewed a firefighter
, who described how the fire became a hazmat situation, with the monitoring of air quality because the golf carts all had lithium-ion batteries.Firefighters ran into a problem upon arrival as there were no hydrants available. ABC-10 reports that they then gained access to a nearby pump from the Natomas Water District.
There's no known cause of the start of the fire. On its website, Teal Bend, which opened in 1997, is described as "a top Sacramento public golf
course, with 18 holes boasting 250 acres of natural wetlands, native trees, lush fairways and rolling greens."
