CORAL GABLES, Florida — Charlie Woods set out to defend his individual title at the Palm League Championship on Monday at the historic Biltmore Golf Course Miami.
Woods, a senior at the Benjamin School and son of legendary golfer Tiger Woods, shot 71 (E) to place eighth overall in the tournament. His team rallied on the back nine holes to win the team championship.
Fellow Benjamin standout Andrew Tsar, an SMU commit, claimed medalist honors with a 2-under 69.
The Bucs, reigning FHSAA Class 1A state champions, faced a much stiffer challenge than they did a year ago, when Woods fired a tournament-best 5-under 66 to pace Benjamin to the title.
While Woods fell short
of repeating as individual champion, he finished strong. A birdie on the 18th hole helped Benjamin secure another piece of hardware.
The Palm League is an athletic conference consisting of private and preparatory schools across Southeast Florida. Its membership includes Palm Beach County programs from Benjamin, Oxbridge Academy and Saint Andrew's, along with Broward County's Pine Crest School and Miami-Dade County schools Gulliver Prep, Ransom Everglades and Miami Country Day.
Benjamin and Oxbridge Academy have combined to win each of the past three FHSAA Class 1A state championships.
