A golf grip usually has one job: give your hands a place to hang on while the rest of the club does something useful. JumboMax’s new JMX UltraLong grip asks it to do a little more. The 15-inch grip is designed to give golfers another hand position on the shaft, creating a third point of contact and another way to control distance.
Available for $18.99 each, the JMX UltraLong is longer than a standard grip and lets a player grip at the top, middle or bottom. That extra real estate could be especially useful with short irons and wedges, where golfers often face awkward shots that require them to choke down on the grip and often hold the steel shaft instead of the grip itself.

Then there’s distance control. A player can use the top of the grip for
a full-length setup, then choke down toward the middle or bottom to change the club’s effective length and control distance. The grip does not make distance control automatic, of course, but it gives players another repeatable option to practice when they are between full-swing distances.
JumboMax says the JMX UltraLong has an extra-firm Tour Series skin and is lightweight, so installing one should cause little to no change in a club’s swing weight. It will be offered in three sizes: standard jumbo (+1/8 inch), medium (+5/16 inch) and extra-large (+3/8 inch).
The longer grip may suit players who like to choke down on a club, want a consistent reference for different swings or simply find that a conventional grip offers too little room to move their hands. Golfers who already have a dialed-in wedge setup may not need this variable, but for someone who struggles to take distance off scoring clubs without decelerating, the JMX UltraLong offers a small equipment change that could make big differences.
