GREENSBORO, NC – One round (almost) down, three more to go at the Wyndham Championship to determine the fate of the 70 golfers to advance to the first leg of the FedEx Cup playoffs.
The first round was suspended at 6:56 p.m. ET due to inclement weather and will resume at 8 a.m. Friday with 12 players left to complete their round.
Nothing has been decided for the field of 147 – except that Pierceson Coody won’t be walking in Memphis after withdrawing following an opening-round 76 – but it’s still a worthwhile exercise to take a look at the bubble and who’s projected in and who’s out when play was suspended.
Beau Hossler
Only one player would vault into the top 70 and that would be the first-round leader. At No. 122 entering the week in the season-long
standings, Hossler needs a win to make it to Memphis. He shot 9-under 61 on Thursday and if he’d go the distance, he is projected to zoom to No. 52. Hossler is winless in nine years on Tour so long way to go. The other big mover? Ben James, who shot 62 to sit T-2 and is projected to leap from No. 141 to No. 94. Only a win will get James into the playoff.
Jackson Koivun
One player moving in, of course, means someone has to get the boot and that would be Jackson Koivun, who is projected to fall two spots from being the Bubble Boy entering the week.
Brian Harman
Harman shot 67 and is sitting T-37 in the tournament but still is expected to fall four spots. He entered the week at No. 63 so he should be in good shape, especially if he makes the cut.
Patrick Rodgers
Rodgers started the week at No. 64 and shot 70 to sit T-102 and will be fighting to make the cut on Friday.
Ricky Castillo
The former Florida Gator star shot 67 and sits T-37. He’s fallen two spots after starting the week at No. 68.
Aldrich Potgieter
The South African bomber shot 70 and sits T-102. After starting the week at No. 65, he is projected at No. 69 and has a 17-point cushion.
Steven Fisk
Fisk is the new Bubble Boy after stumbling to a 2-over 72 and sitting T-122. He’s still on the right side of the cutline, and projected to finish 3.430 points ahead of Koivun.
Jackson Koivun
As noted above, Koivun shot 67 and yet he’s been bumped a spot and now finds himself as the first guy out.
Davis Thompson
The former Georgia Bulldog has found some form with back-to-back top 10s. He opened with 64 to sit T-5 and is projected to climb from No. 80 to No. 72. But it’s not enough. He’s projected to be 20 points behind the last man in.
Mac Meissner
Meissner shot 2-under 68 and sits T-54. He is projected to drop two places from where he started this week.
Keegan Bradley
The 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup captain is in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in 12 years and he didn’t help his chances with an even-par 70 to sit T-102. He started the week at No. 72 but will have to bounce back to make the cut on Friday.
Denny McCarthy
The former Virginia Cavalier made a nice move on Thursday with a bogey-free 64 to jump nine spots in the projected standings. Still, he’ll need to keep going low.
