The picks are in. Captain Geoff Ogilvy rounded out his 12-man team for the 2026 Presidents Cup on Tuesday by making his six captain’s picks for the International team.
The first four were fairly obvious, as Ogilvy added Nos. 7-10 in the points standings: Corey Conners of Canada, Nico Echavarria of Colombia, Sungjae Im of South Korea and Ryo Hisatsune of Japan. The final two choices required some deeper thought but Ogilvy eventually settled on a pair of savvy PGA Tour veterans in South Africa's Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Canada’s Nick Taylor, who, at long last, will make his first Presidents Cup appearance.
The 16th edition of the Presidents Cup will be played Sept. 24-27 at Medinah Country Club in Chicago. Here’s a closer look at the six International
captain’s picks.
Corey Conners
- Age: 34
- World Ranking: 54
- Previous appearances: 2022, 2024
- Presidents Cup record: 2-7-0
The Canadian is set to make his third appearance playing for the Shield. Conners putted terribly in 2022 and was winless in four matches in 2022. He was slightly better in Montreal two years ago, going 2-3 and playing all five sessions. He had only one top-10 this season and failed to make the BMW Championship. Still, he narrowly missed the six automatic qualification spots, and if his ball striking is dialed in and he putts better, he can make for a difficult opponent.
Nico Echavarria
- Age: 34
- World Ranking: 56
- Previous appearances: None
- Presidents Cup record: Rookie
Echavarria won for the third time on Tour earlier this season at the Cognizant Classic. He recorded three top 10s and five top 25s this season. He will be making his International team debut.
Nick Taylor
- Age: 38
- World Ranking: 67
- Previous appearances: None
- Presidents Cup record: Rookie
Considering he’s a five-time PGA Tour winner, it’s remarkable that Taylor has never made an International team before. Taylor, who finished 13th in the point standings, should have been selected two years ago when the competition was held in Montreal. His game was in better form then than it is now, but he’s waited a long time for this chance and he’s proven that he can be a big-game hunter, taking down Phil Mickelson to win at Pebble Beach and Tommy Fleetwood in a playoff to win his national championship, the RBC Canadian Open. He recorded just one top-10 finish this season and failed to make it past the first round of the playoffs.
Sungjae Im
- Age: 34
- World Ranking: 57
- Previous appearances: 2019, 2022, 2024
- Presidents Cup record: 6-7-2
Im started the season on the injured list but still nearly made it to East Lake. He failed to win in 2026 and hasn’t done so in nearly five years but he finished the season strongly. Expect him to team with Hideki Matsuyama again. They paired up to win a foursomes match 7 and 6 over Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele, tying the Presidents Cup record for shortest match in the competition’s 30-year history.
Ryo Hisatsune
- Age: 23
- World Ranking: 56
- Previous appearances: None
- Presidents Cup record: Rookie
The youngest player on the International team, Hisatsune made 21 straight cuts this season, including a T-2 at the Farmers Insurance Open among five top-10 finishes. He finished 10th in the point standings.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout
- Age: 32
- World Ranking: 96
- Previous appearances: 2022, 2024
- Presidents Cup Record: 3-1-1
The South African was chosen from outside the top 15 of the team standings. But he had a winning record in his previous appearance and Ogilvy went off the script by choosing the 96th ranked player in the world.
