Hollywood stars and a blue chip group of celebrities from the worlds of music and sport will be coming together to partner a world-class field of golf professionals in the 25th Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
The event, a celebration of Links golf at its finest, is staged from Oct. 1 to 4 over three of the most famous Links courses in the world – the Old Course at St. Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.
Bill Murray, much loved by golf fans for his role as wacky greenkeeper Carl in the film "Caddyshack," is a very good golfer in his own right and will be playing in the Dunhill Links Team Championship for the 11th time.
Also playing will be Kathryn Newton, who could easily have become a professional. As a talented high school golfer, she initially
wanted to play as an amateur in the 2012 US Women's Open, but had to withdraw after getting her first-ever film lead in Paranormal Activity 4, which set her on a totally different path to stardom.
Known for her starring roles in CBS comedy series Gary Unmarried, HBO mystery drama Big Little Lies and Netflix drama The Society, she has also starred as Marvel’s newest superhero in "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania."
The Alfred Dunhill Links incorporates two separate competitions - an individual professional event for the world's leading golfers and the Team Championship in which the professionals are paired with the amateurs.
A group of global music celebrities will be hoping to hit the high notes on the golf course, including Keane’s Tom Chaplin, Linkin Park’s Dave Farrell, making his 10th appearance, singer-songwriter Ronan Keating and US rock legend Huey Lewis, who played in the first Dunhill Links back in 2001.
Olympic rowing legend Sir Steve Redgrave will have played in all 25 Alfred Dunhill Links Championships when he tees off in October, and he will be joining other famous sportsmen including 11-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater, England cricketer Kevin Pietersen, also making his tenth appearance, Dutch football’s Ruud Gullit, and champion jump jockey Sir Tony (A.P.) McCoy.
Will Ahmed, founder and CEO of wearable technology company WHOOP, entrepreneur Peter Jones, star of Dragons Den, and Piers Morgan are also playing.
Sir Steve Redgrave said: “It's truly enjoyable and an honour to be part of the Dunhill Links. I was invited to the first year in 2001 and I’ve been invited back every year. I really want to congratulate Alfred Dunhill on creating this wonderful event which has been such a marvellous sporting occasion for 25 years now. We all enjoy the golf, the fun and the camaraderie, but we all know behind the scenes there is so much work going on quietly to raise money for charity through the Alfred Dunhill Links Foundation.”
In a strong line-up of professionals this year, defending champion Bob MacIntyre is joined by England’s Tyrrell Hatton, bidding to win his fourth Dunhill title, Ireland’s Padraig Harrington, who, like Steve Redgrave, has played in all 25 Championships, Matt Fitzpatrick, winner in 2023, his brother Alex Fitzpatrick, 2019 Team Champion Tommy Fleetwood, Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald and seven-time Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter.
Also back in the Dunhill Links for the first time since 2019, when he had a hole-in-one on the 8th at Carnoustie, is 2003 champion Lee Westwood. There is a strong international presence with Major Championship winners Brooks Koepka, Bubba Watson and Cam Smith.
Admission is free for all spectators over the first three days of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
