Michael Kim is one of the better follows on X. Now he'll have a lot more to chat about with golf fans.
In the second round of the 2026 3M Open on Friday, Kim posted the 15th 59 (and 16th sub-60 round) in PGA Tour history.
Kim's scorecard was a series of circles. He made five birdies in a row on Nos. 3 through 7, tacked on two more straight birds on Nos. 9 and 10, had another on 12 and two more in a row on Nos. 15 and 16.
That left him the par-3 17th and the par-5 18th to go. After hitting the green on 17, he faced a 17-footer for birdie and he drained it. That put him to 11 under with a hole to go.
The par-5 closer was playing 577 yards Friday with a big hooking dogleg right shape to the green. Golfers going for it in two are generally hitting a shot
of about 230 or so yards over a large body of water.
Kim's tee shot on 18 on Friday was 257 yards down the left side and just missed the fairway, an apparent sign he was going to avoid messing with the water at any cost. For his second from about 290 yards out, he hit a layup of about 188 yards, leaving him 125 to the pin. Up and down from there would be the 12th birdie on his scorecard and the mythical 59.
With his third, Kim hit the green but his ball spun away from the hole. His body language indicated he wasn't thrilled with that wedge but he would have a 24-footer for birdie for his 59.
Then, with history on the line, Kim rolled his birdie putt towards the hole and he made it, the ball coming in hot but dead center.

That got him to 14 under overall, good for a three-shot lead. He was 10 shots better Friday than he was Thursday.
"To be honest, I'm afraid I'm going to wake up from my hotel bed," Kim told PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ after his round. "So far, it feels real."
And how about that putt on 18?
"It was a pretty poor wedge shot to put myself there," he said. "I was pretty comfortable with the read, it was pretty good uphill and I just thought to myself 'make sure to get it there, even if you hit it too hard' and about 3 feet out I was just hoping it wouldn't lip out and it went in."
Jake Knapp was the last golfer to achieve the sub-60 feat, doing so in the opening round of the 2025 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches at PGA National's Champion Course.
It's also the second 59 in as many days at a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, as Scott Stevens did it Thursday on the PGA Tour Americas in Toronto.
