Yuto Katsuragawa called Sunday the "the greatest moment of my life," and for good reason.
The 28-year-old from Japan had a monumental victory, claiming his second DP World Tour title at the regular-season ending Genesis Championship in Korea. The win vaulted him up 78 spots in the Race to Dubai rankings, not only securing his DP World Tour status for 2027 but also guaranteeing him starts in both playoff events next month in the United Arab Emirates.
"I'm very happy because to play on the DP World Tour is something I need in my life and I am very happy to play in Dubai," Katsuragawa said.
With the top-70 positions finalized, the field is now set for the DP World Tour Playoffs, which begin in two weeks at the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship. The playoff
events will be played as scheduled amidst the conflict in the Middle East.
Rory McIlroy, third in the Race to Dubai, is going for his fifth straight title and eighth overall, which would tie him with Colin Montgomerie for the most all-time. Eugenio Chacarra and Patrick Reed sit No. 1 and 2 in the standings, with Chacarra having a 700-point advantage over Reed heading into the playoffs.
Both players are virtual locks to earn one of 10 PGA Tour cards up for grabs following the DP World Tour Championship, which comes to a conclusion in three weeks. The top-10 players in the Race to Dubai standings at year's end will receive PGA Tour cards if not already exempt.
One of the most impressive performances Sunday came courtesy of Sean Crocker, who fired a back-nine 29 (after going out in 39) to move into the 100th position of the Race to Dubai, which guarantees him his DP World Tour card for 2027.
"That was probably one of the better back nines I've ever played with circumstances and everything going on there, it was pretty good," Crocker said after.
