LIV Golf is no more.
A lawyer representing LIV in a bankruptcy hearing Thursday said that it will begin formally winding down and liquidating its assets. A statement from LIV Golf CEO Scott O'Neil followed shortly after, confirming that the breakaway golf circuit will shutter operations after BC Partners dropped its $300 million bid
to fund the 2027 season due to a lack of player commitment and various other financial demands from agents.Naturally, such news on a topic as polarizing and divisive as LIV Golf has spurred quite a range of reactions on social media. From writers to TV personalities to everyday golf fans, here's what people are saying about the now-official demise golf's most disruptive venture to date:
Unserious product from the start,
peddled only by grifters. Whether or not the golf world is in a better place now is an open question. But none of the characters involved in this sham should be celebrated. https://t.co/HAf18J05xl

Such a sad day. Not because LIV was a good product, or that we have any sympathy for the players. No, LIV was a non-stop content machine, noisy and ridiculous and entertaining. It changed the game in spite of itself. Gawd, what a ride. I’m gonna miss the absurdity of it all. https://t.co/NlTeCTawfn

Imagine getting in a time machine, going back to mid-2022, and telling everyone that LIV Golf is dead, Texas and Mississippi have Democratic senators, and the New York Knicks are reining NBA champs.

LIV Golf taking its last breath in a bankruptcy hearing is hilarious.

This was definitely not one of the steps in Phil Mickelson’s master plan. https://t.co/84FLZwVe29
Its a sad day in golf. I enjoyed the sites and sounds of LIV that just brought a completely different energy and atmosphere to the often stuffy and boring world of golf.

Totally agree and it’s not a good excuse to celebrate what LIV was or what it did. You don’t know what the end result would have been if LIV was successful. The golf fan experience could have become much worse. The LIV on-course product was awful.

The agents looking for a few final scraps in the final hours of LIV is an appropriate way for it to go out. https://t.co/pr0bUgh6YI
