After a disappointing performance to open the 2026 season, Tristan Wirfs faced criticism from Buccaneers fans that they aren't accustomed to seeing directed at their All-Pro left tackle. However, five weeks into the season, Wirfs has responded in a big way, and his recent production is another reminder of why Tampa Bay made him one of the highest-paid offensive linemen in football.
According to Pro Football Focus, Wirfs currently holds the longest active streak among NFL offensive tackles without allowing a single pressure at 90 consecutive snaps. That puts him ahead of some of the league's most respected tackles, including Trent Williams (80), Anthony Belton (78), Braxton Jones (59), and Brian O'Neill (57). For Wirfs, the accomplishment is particularly
impressive considering how his season began. His struggles in Week 1 raised concerns about his performance, especially given the expectations surrounding a player who has consistently been among the NFL's elite at his position. However, rather than allowing one poor outing to define his season, Wirfs has steadily returned to the dominant form that made him a cornerstone of Tampa Bay's offensive line.
Going 90 consecutive snaps without surrendering a pressure is no small accomplishment, especially at left tackle, where Wirfs is routinely tasked with protecting the quarterback against some of the league's most dangerous edge rushers. His ability to consistently win individual matchups has been critical to an offensive line that has quietly become one of Tampa Bay's biggest strengths. The Buccaneers currently lead the NFL in lowest pressure rate allowed at just 18.4%, according to PFF. While that success is a collective effort, Wirfs' ability to eliminate pressure from the left side has played an important role in keeping the offense functioning despite the challenges at quarterback. With Baker Mayfield sidelined and rookie Jalon Daniels taking over under center, reliable pass protection has become even more important.
