It's never too early for NFL mock draft season, especially when your team is sitting at 0-2.
Todd McShay released his latest 2027 NFL mock draft for The Ringer, and he has the Tampa Bay Buccaneers going in an interesting direction with the No. 14 overall pick. Rather than adding another piece to the defense, McShay has Tampa Bay selecting LSU tight end Trey'Dez Green.
Green isn't just the first tight end off the board in McShay's projection. The longtime NFL draft analyst currently has the LSU standout ranked as his No. 12 overall prospect and top tight end, giving him a 93 grade. Green is listed at nearly 6-foot-7 and 238 pounds, giving him the type of size that immediately stands out at the tight end position.
McShay sees Green as a potential
weapon for offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, particularly when paired with Cade Otton in two-tight-end sets. His scouting report highlights Green's ability to line up in-line, from the slot or outside, creating different ways for Tampa Bay to get him involved in the passing game. McShay also views his blocking as an area that still needs development.
His receiving ability is what makes Green such an intriguing player. He caught 33 passes for 433 yards and seven touchdowns in 2025, earning second-team All-SEC honors. Those seven scores set LSU's single-season record for receiving touchdowns by a tight end, while his 11 career touchdowns already stand as the program record at the position.
Taking a tight end at No. 14 would certainly be an investment for a Bucs roster with other needs, but McShay's projection isn't about replacing Otton. It's about putting another weapon alongside him and giving Robinson another way to create mismatches.
There is still an entire college football season and NFL season to play before Tampa Bay's actual draft needs become clear. For now, McShay has the Bucs using their first-round pick on one of the biggest offensive mismatches in the 2027 class.
