The Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave it a gutsy effort in Jalon Daniels' first start, but they came up just short.
The Buccaneers had a chance to defeat the Green Bay Packers for their first victory of the season, but the Daniels-led offense came up short on a fourth-down conversion on the Packers' side of the field, and Tampa Bay lost 17-14.
Daniels had a solid showing in his first-ever start, going 19-for-27 with a touchdown and 55 rushing yards. However, he also had two interceptions, which resulted in 10 points for the Packers.
Following the game, the undrafted rookie quarterback spoke to reporters and maturely reflected on the lessons learned from his first-ever start.
"Last time I talked to you all, I said you have to go through every single emotion,
go through every single high, every single low and be able to feel that and be able to play that true through your head," said Daniels. "Because everything that you're going through is built to be able to make you stronger for every situation that does come down the line even you don't see it in that moment. There's a lot of learning lessons that I'm able to take in from today and I'm going to do everything I can to be better."
If there's anything positive to take from the Packers' loss, it's that the Buccaneers remained competitive against a playoff team in Daniels' first start. Furthermore, it's worth noting they've lost all four of their games by just one possession.
The Buccaneers will ride with Daniels for at least two more games with Baker Mayfield sidelined with a thumb injury for at least two more weeks. Tampa Bay will travel to Dallas to take on the Dallas Cowboys in a short-week matchup on Thursday Night Football before returning home to host the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Tampa Bay will hope to keep the season afloat with Daniels at quarterback. There's only one team in NFL history -- the 1992 San Diego Chargers -- that has made it to the playoffs after starting 0-4.
