Buccaneers first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. remained on the field in full pads for roughly an hour after practice ended to continue working.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had plenty of reasons to be excited about first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. throughout training camp, and the rookie is apparently making sure the work doesn't stop when practice does.
Greg Auman reported on X 30 minutes after practice ended that Bain was still on the field in pads getting additional work. Interviews had already wrapped up, and the Tampa heat hadn't let up, but Bain wasn't finished. He ultimately remained on the field for roughly an hour after the conclusion of practice.
"Practice ended a half-hour ago, interviews have ended, still ridiculously hot out, and Rueben
Bain is still on the field in pads working," Auman wrote.
It's a small moment during a long training camp, but spending an extra hour on the field says something about how Bain is approaching his first NFL season. The Buccaneers selected the former Miami standout with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft, bringing him in to add a potentially disruptive presence to the defensive front.
Bain has already generated positive attention throughout camp, but Tampa Bay will eventually need that work to translate when the games count. As a first-round pick, expectations were always going to follow him into his rookie season. For now, Bain is doing his part to prepare for them, even if it means being the last one left on the practice field.
