Edge, David Walker
David Walker has made a compelling case for a bigger role in Tampa Bay's defensive rotation, and Sunday's matchup gives him another chance to prove it. The rookie has recorded four sacks through six games despite playing just 99 defensive snaps, the fewest among players with at least four sacks this season. His speed, power, and leverage let him attack the outside shoulder before countering inside when blockers overcommit. That versatility could be crucial against Bryce Young, who has thrown 11 touchdown passes against just two interceptions entering Week 7. If Walker can disrupt Young's timing and force Carolina into obvious passing situations, he could give Tampa Bay's defense the difference-making performance it needs.
Running back, Bucky Irving
If Tampa Bay wants to
control this game, the clearest path might be through Bucky Irving. Carolina has surrendered 5.12 yards per carry, the worst mark in the NFL entering Week 7, giving the Buccaneers a chance to establish the run and take pressure off their passing attack. Irving's vision, acceleration, and ability to make defenders miss in tight spaces give him the tools to exploit Carolina's defensive front. More importantly, a productive running game would keep Young and the Panthers' passing attack off the field.
Cornerback, Zyon McCollum
The third player to watch is Zyon McCollum, who faces one of his most important assignments of the season against Carolina receiver Tetairoa McMillan. McMillan has emerged as a dangerous target, entering Week 7 with 471 receiving yards on 32 receptions and averaging 94.2 receiving yards per game. His size, catch radius, and ability to win contested catches make him a difficult matchup for any cornerback. McCollum's physical profile gives Tampa Bay a chance to contest those throws. He has the length to challenge McMillan at the catch point and the patience to stay with him through routes. But winning this matchup will require more than physical ability. McCollum must avoid giving Young easy completions, especially on third down, where Carolina can use McMillan's size to extend drives.
