The Buccaneers' receiving corps is getting healthier ahead of their Week 2 matchup with the Cleveland Browns, which gives fantasy managers more options but also makes the target distribution a little harder to predict.
Emeka Egbuka and Chris Godwin remain the two Bucs receivers I'm comfortable starting this week. Ted Hurst III and Jalen McMillan are deeper options, but both carry more risk and will likely need to find the end zone to provide enough fantasy value to justify putting them into a lineup.
Emeka Egbuka: Start
Egbuka entered the season with plenty of expectations, and his role in Week 1 gave fantasy managers a reason to keep trusting him. He caught five passes for 63 yards against Cincinnati, finishing as Tampa Bay's leading receiver in the loss.
FantasyPros
has Egbuka ranked as the WR19 for Week 2 with a projection of 11.1 fantasy points. That's right around where I have him against Cleveland, and I'm comfortable starting him as a WR2 this week.
The return of McMillan adds another receiver to the offense, but it isn't enough for me to move away from Egbuka after one game. He should continue to have a significant role in Tampa Bay's passing attack, making him one of the easier Bucs receivers to put into your lineup.
Chris Godwin: Start
Godwin is another receiver I'm starting against Cleveland. He caught all four of his targets for 40 yards in Week 1, giving us our first look at how he will be used in Zac Robinson's offense alongside Egbuka.
FantasyPros isn't quite as high on Godwin this week, ranking him WR30 with a 9.6-point projection. I'm a little more comfortable with him than that ranking suggests, especially in PPR formats where his ability to pick up receptions can give him a safer floor.
McMillan's return could take away some opportunities, but Godwin's established role is enough for me to keep him in the lineup. Egbuka has the higher ranking this week, but both are receivers I would feel comfortable starting against the Browns.
Ted Hurst III: Deeper play
Hurst took advantage of McMillan being out in Week 1, catching all three of his targets for 36 yards in his NFL debut. He also received significant playing time as Tampa Bay leaned heavily on three-receiver sets with McMillan unavailable.
The problem this week is that McMillan appears ready to return. He was a full participant in practice Wednesday and Thursday, which could cut into Hurst's opportunities against Cleveland. FantasyPros has Hurst all the way down at WR78 with a 5.2-point projection.
I wouldn't completely rule him out in a deeper league because he could still have a role, but he's going to be difficult to trust with McMillan back. Hurst feels touchdown-dependent this week, and that's too much risk for me in a standard lineup.
Jalen McMillan: Wait a week
McMillan is the most interesting decision of the group because he's coming back from the knee injury that kept him out of Week 1. The good news is that he's been a full participant in practice on both Wednesday and Thursday, which is a strong step toward getting him back on the field Sunday.
FantasyPros ranks McMillan WR93 with a projection of 4.2 points this week. I think there is more upside here than that ranking might suggest, but I'm still waiting a week before putting him into a fantasy lineup.
We haven't seen McMillan play a regular-season game in this offense yet, and we don't know how heavy his workload will be immediately after his return from injury. He could absolutely have a decent game, especially if he finds the end zone, but that's not enough for me to start him until I see his role.
For Week 2, Egbuka and Godwin are the two Bucs receivers I want in my lineup. Hurst and McMillan are deeper options with touchdown-dependent upside, but I'd especially give McMillan one week back on the field before trusting him in a fantasy lineup.
