The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added another defensive back Tuesday, signing cornerback Brandon Johnson to their practice squad. Johnson takes the practice-squad spot previously occupied by Sean Murphy-Bunting, who was signed to the Pittsburgh Steelers' active roster earlier this week.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound Johnson entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2025. He spent most of his rookie season on Philadelphia's practice squad before appearing in three games, recording three tackles and one pass defensed.
Johnson played 28 defensive snaps for Philadelphia in 2025, according to PFF, with 12 coming against the run and 16 in coverage. He earned a 57.5 overall defensive grade, a 64.7 run-defense grade and a 55.3 coverage grade.
Philadelphia also used Johnson at multiple spots in the secondary during his defensive appearances. PFF charted him with snaps at slot corner in one game and free safety in another.
Johnson played collegiately at Duke and Oregon, appearing in 50 games with 173 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, three interceptions, and 16 passes defensed.
He spent his final college season at Oregon in 2024, appearing in all 14 games and recording 45 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 6 passes defensed, and 1 interception. Johnson earned honorable mention All-Big Ten recognition that season. Johnson will wear No. 28 for Tampa Bay.
