For many NFL players, signing a lucrative contract extension represents the culmination of years of hard work. For Baltimore Ravenswide receiver Zay Flowers, it represents something else entirely.
This means the work is only beginning. This means the job isn't finished. Flowers recently secured his future with the Ravens, inking a four-year, $140 million contract extension. Still, the star receiver made it clear during his most recent chat with the media that his daily routine and ultimate goal remain the same.
"We still gotta get a Super Bowl. Nothing changes. I'm still doing the same thing, [waking up at] five in the morning. I'm getting here (to the facility) and working every day."
That's exactly the mentality Baltimore hoped it was investing
in. The Ravens knowthey've locked up one of the NFL's most dynamic young playmakers for years to come. Flowers, meanwhile, is focused on helping the franchise accomplish something that has eluded it throughout the Lamar Jackson era.The mission is clear: bringing another Vince Lombardi Trophy back to Baltimore. That mindset has already shown itself on the practice field. Flowers reported to training camp eight pounds heavier than he played a season ago, increasing his weight to 186 pounds. The added strength wasn't about changing who he is as a receiver. It was about becoming a more complete football player and making life even more difficult for defenders after the catch.
The offseason work reflects a player who isn't satisfied with individual accolades or financial security. Instead, he's searching for ways to help the Ravens take the next step. Flowers also made it clear there's no quarterback he'd rather chase that goal with than Jackson.
"I would love for him to be my quarterback until I am done playing, no matter whether it is 12 years or 13... I want him to be my quarterback because, to me, he is the best in the world."

That's high praise from one of Jackson's favorite targets, and another reminder of the chemistry the two have developed since Flowers entered the league.
The Ravens have spent years building their offense around Jackson's unique skill set. Now they'll continue doing so with Flowers under contract and committed to growing alongside his franchise quarterback.
Contracts may provide security, but they don't guarantee championships. If Flowers' words are any indication, his extension wasn't the finish line. It's removed one distraction while keeping his focus exactly where it's always been, bringing a third Vince Lombardi Trophy to Baltimore.
