The Baltimore Ravens are adding an intriguing insurance policy at kicker as they begin assembling their practice squad.
Baltimore signed veteran Jake Moody to the practice squad Monday, according to The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec.
The move gives the Ravens another experienced option behind rookie Tyler Loop after Baltimore spent the summer evaluating its kicking situation. Moody, 26, originally entered the NFL as a third-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2023 NFL draft after an accomplished career at Michigan. He made 21 of 25 field-goal attempts as a rookie before his accuracy declined during his second season.
San Francisco eventually waived Moody after the opening game of the 2025 season. He missed two of three field-goal attempts in that
game after converting just 24 of 34 attempts in 2024.

Moody responded with the best stretch of his NFL career.
He went 8-for-9 on field goals during two games with the Chicago Bears before joining Washington, where he converted 10 of 11 attempts over six games. His run with the Commanders included makes from 51 and 56 yards.
For his career, Moody has made 64 of 82 field-goal attempts, a 78% conversion rate, along with 107 of 110 extra-point attempts.
The signing is noteworthy because Baltimore appears committed to Loop on the initial 53-man roster, but Moody gives the organization an established kicker it can develop and keep nearby.
Loop had an uneven finish to the preseason, making kicks from 42 and 49 yards while missing attempts from 49 and 58 yards over Baltimore's final two exhibitions.
Rather than searching for an option during the season if Loop struggles, the Ravens now have a kicker on the practice squad who has handled pressure situations and has already shown he can rebound from adversity. Moody won't necessarily represent an immediate threat to Loop's job, but Baltimore has created competition and insurance at one of the most important positions on the roster before Week 1.
