Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens have consistently started regular seasons with one of the NFL’s most productive offenses.
Since Jackson became Baltimore’s full-time starting quarterback in 2019, the Ravens have led the league in four significant offensive categories during Week 1 games, according to the team’s communications department. Baltimore has averaged an NFL-best 33.3 points and 407.6 net yards per game in season openers during that span. The Ravens also lead the league with 6.6 yards per play and 5.2 yards per rushing attempt.
Those numbers illustrate how difficult Baltimore’s offense has been to prepare for when opponents have an entire offseason to develop a plan. Jackson’s speed, decision-making, and ability to create explosive
plays have consistently helped the Ravens start seasons efficiently.

Baltimore will attempt to continue that success Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. The circumstances are different this time, with Jesse Minter beginning his tenure as head coach and Declan Doyle installing a new offensive system. Jackson, however, remains the constant who can make the transition considerably smoother.
The Colts must also account for Derrick Henry and a deep collection of skill-position players. Baltimore’s ability to stress a defense horizontally and vertically should create opportunities for Jackson as a passer and runner.
Past production will not guarantee another explosive performance, especially on the road against a Colts defense with several talented playmakers. Still, the Ravens’ Week 1 history with Jackson suggests the offense typically arrives prepared.
Baltimore has spent the offseason installing a new system. Sunday offers the first opportunity to determine whether its season-opening dominance will carry into the Minter era.
