The Baltimore Ravens can no longer treat their quarterback situation as a short-term inconvenience.
Lamar Jackson will undergo surgery and move to injured reserve after dislocating his right thumb on the opening play of Sunday’s 36-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Tyler Huntley later suffered a toe injury, while undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano finished the game despite a foot issue.
With a Thursday night matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars approaching, Baltimore needs another quarterback immediately. The Ravens could make a short-term free-agent signing, but the Nov. 10 trade deadline gives general manager Eric DeCosta time to pursue a more capable replacement.
Here are 10 possibilities, divided between trade targets and verified unrestricted free
agents.
Quarterbacks the Ravens could pursue in a trade
Tyson Bagent, Chicago Bears: Bagent has experience in a system connected to Ravens offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, who coached him in Chicago. He has started six career games, including two this season, and could potentially be acquired for a late-round selection. Bagent has completed 42 of 64 passes for 409 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions in 2026.
Kirk Cousins, Las Vegas Raiders: Cousins is the most accomplished potential option, with 167 career starts entering the season. Las Vegas signed him to a deal containing substantial guarantees, and he remains its starter, making this the most expensive and least likely scenario. His experience would nevertheless give Baltimore a legitimate chance to remain competitive.
Anthony Richardson, Indianapolis Colts: Richardson and the Colts agreed to explore a trade during the offseason, although Indianapolis ultimately retained him. His elite athletic ability would let Baltimore preserve parts of its Jackson-based running game, but his accuracy, injury history, and developmental needs remain major concerns.
Joe Milton III, Philadelphia Eagles: Philadelphia signed Milton from Dallas’ practice squad in October. His arm strength and mobility make him an intriguing developmental fit, and the 2-6 Eagles could consider recovering draft capital for a quarterback behind Tanner McKee. Milton has only one NFL regular-season start, making him more of a projection than an immediate solution.
Jacoby Brissett, Arizona Cardinals: Brissett offers extensive starting experience, but Arizona’s unstable quarterback situation complicates his availability. Gardner Minshew replaced him during Sunday’s comeback victory over Dallas, potentially creating an opening if the Cardinals decide to change starters permanently.
Verified free-agent options
Jimmy Garoppolo, Nick Mullens, Brandon Allen and Jake Browning are among the available unrestricted free-agent quarterbacks.
Garoppolo offers the most starting experience, though he would need significant schematic adjustment. Mullens is an aggressive distributor with 20 career starts, while Allen has worked in multiple offensive systems and could function as an experienced reserve. Browning offers less experience but is younger and has shown he can manage an offense in meaningful games.
None can reproduce Jackson’s impact. Baltimore’s immediate objective is more modest: find a quarterback or help Joe Fagnano run the passing game, protect the football, and keep the season from collapsing while the Ravens determine how much time Jackson and Huntley will miss.
