The Ravens released wide receiver Chris Moore from the active roster and wide receiver Xavier Guillory from the practice squad Tuesday, reshaping their receiving corps ahead of Week 6.
The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec reported the transactions as rookie receiver Ja’Kobi Lane becomes eligible to return from injured reserve. Coach Jesse Minter sounded optimistic that Lane could play Sunday against Cleveland, according to The Baltimore Sun's Brian Wacker. Baltimore promoted Moore from the practice squad on Sept. 16 after placing Lane on injured reserve following a wrist injury in the season opener against Indianapolis. Lane underwent surgery and missed the Ravens’ next four games.
Moore recorded three catches for 63 yards and a touchdown this season.
He also contributed on special teams, returning eight kickoffs for 229 yards. Guillory had joined Baltimore’s practice squad after the preseason roster cuts.
The moves leave Baltimore with an opening on its active roster as it evaluates Lane’s readiness. His eligibility to return doesn't guarantee he will play against the Browns, but Minter’s optimism is an encouraging sign for a receiving group that could regain one of its promising young targets.
The Ravens enter Week 6 at 4-1 after a 30-23 overtime win over Atlanta.
