The Baltimore Ravens received encouraging news about one of their most promising young players, but the latest injury still creates another major challenge for an offensive line that has struggled to stay healthy this season. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Ravens rookie guard Vega Ioane suffered an MCL sprain during Sunday's 35-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and is expected to miss some time. Rapoport, citing sources in a report with Mike Garafolo, described the injury as short-term, offering Baltimore some relief after the first-round pick exited the game with a knee injury.
Ioane left Sunday's contest in the first quarter and did not return, forcing Baltimore to turn to right guard Emery Jones Jr. The setback came just as the Ravens
were finally positioned to establish continuity along an offensive line that has undergone numerous changes through the first seven games. The rookie has emerged as one of Baltimore's most valuable offensive linemen, providing stability at multiple positions and helping keep the offense functional amid injuries. Baltimore selected Ioane in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft to strengthen the interior offensive line, and the former Penn State standout has quickly justified that investment. His physicality, versatility, and ability to handle difficult assignments have been among the few consistent positives for a unit that has dealt with injuries since training camp.

Ioane initially started at right guard before being forced to move to center following injuries to Danny Pinter, Jovaughn Gwyn and Ethan Pocic. Despite limited experience at the position, the rookie handled the transition and provided the Ravens with a temporary solution to their problems in the middle of the offensive line. The acquisition of former Philadelphia Eagles center Cam Jurgens finally allowed Ioane to return to his natural position against Cincinnati. Jurgens made his Baltimore debut after clearing concussion protocol, giving the Ravens an opportunity to evaluate their preferred interior combination.
That stability lasted less than one quarter.
Ioane's departure forced another adjustment: Jones replaced him and played the final 51 offensive snaps against the Bengals. Baltimore was already without Andrew Vorhees, who missed the game because of a foot injury. The immediate concern is an offense that has struggled to produce consistently while dealing with injuries to quarterback Lamar Jackson and multiple offensive linemen. Losing Ioane removes one of Baltimore's most reliable interior blockers and creates another obstacle for a rushing attack built around Derrick Henry. His absence could also impact pass protection, particularly if Jackson returns while the offensive line remains compromised. The Ravens need better communication, more consistent blocking, and fewer negative plays as they attempt to recover from Sunday's second-half collapse against Cincinnati.
Jones gives Baltimore an experienced option in its current rotation, while Vorhees' potential return could add flexibility. Still, neither development replaces the consistency Ioane has provided throughout his rookie season.
