The Baltimore Ravens have completed their first extended stretch of training camp and will receive a day away from the practice field before beginning preparations for the preseason opener. Ravens players are off Monday. They will return to the Under Armour Performance Center on Tuesday for the first of three consecutive practices leading up to Saturday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles
at M&T Bank Stadium. The opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will provide Jesse Minter and his coaching staff with their first opportunity to evaluate the roster against another NFL team.
Ravens’ upcoming practice schedule
Monday: Players off
Tuesday: Practice at 11 a.m.
Wednesday: Practice at 10 a.m.
Thursday: Practice at 11 a.m.
Friday: Walkthrough
Saturday: Preseason opener against the
Eagles at 7 p.m. at M&T Bank Stadium
The three-practice block will allow Baltimore to transition from the installation-heavy portion of training camp toward game preparation. The Ravens won’t build the type of detailed plan they would use during the regular season, but the practices should introduce players to Philadelphia’s personnel and basic tendencies.
Tuesday’s session will also provide an updated look at Baltimore’s injury situation.Zay Flowers is considered day-to-daywith a quad contusion, and the off day gives the Pro Bowl receiver additional time to recover before the Ravens determine his workload.
Preseason opener will clarify Ravens roster battles
Saturday’s game is most important for players competing near the bottom of the depth chart. Established starters such as Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, Roquan Smith and Kyle Hamilton have little to prove during the preseason.
The most valuable snaps should belong to players fighting for reserve roles and roster spots. Joe Fagnano can strengthen his case for a developmental quarterback position, while Rasheen Ali will have an opportunity to establish his standing behind Henry and Justice Hill.
The offensive line competition will also receive attention. Ethan Pocic, Danny Pinter, Nick Dawkins and Corey Bullock are among the players attempting to establish roles along the interior. Carson Vinson and the other reserve tackles will be tested by Philadelphia’s deep collection of edge defenders. Defensively, T.J. Tampa can continue his push for a prominent reserve cornerback role. Kaimon Rucker and Baltimore’s young pass rushers will also have an opportunity to turn encouraging practice performances into production against an unfamiliar opponent.
Training camp evaluations will continue after the opener, but the Ravens are approaching their first significant checkpoint of the summer.
