The Baltimore Ravens have waived quarterback Austin Reed as they continue trimming their roster, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler
. Baltimore signed Reed on Aug. 12 after placing veteran quarterback Skylar Thompson on injured reserve. Reed had previous experience with offensive coordinator Declan Doyle from their time together with the Chicago Bears and provided another experienced arm for the remainder of training camp.Reed made the most of his limited preseason opportunities. He scored on a 14-yard run against the Eagles shortly after joining the team and completed his final appearance by finding Cornelius Johnson for a 20-yard touchdown during Baltimore’s 41-3 victory over Washington.
The move provides additional clarity in Baltimore’s quarterback
room. Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley entered the summer with secure roster positions, leaving Reed and undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano competing for the remaining opportunity. Fagnano delivered one of the strongest preseasons on Baltimore’s roster, completing 56 of 75 passes for 509 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Waiving Reed provides another indication that the Ravens intend to keep Fagnano as their third quarterback.
Reed will now be subject to waivers. His previous practice-squad experience with Chicago, successful 2026 UFL season and productive preseason tape could generate interest from another organization.
Baltimore could consider bringing Reed back if he clears, but Fagnano’s emergence and the presence of Jackson and Huntley make another opportunity elsewhere more likely.
