The Baltimore Ravens strengthened their Super Bowl chances by acquiring Cam Jurgens, but the trade alone doesn't make them favorites.
Adding a two-time Pro Bowl center addresses an urgent need for a team built around Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. Baltimore is sending Philadelphia a 2027 fifth-round pick and a 2028 second-round selection for Jurgens and a 2027 seventh-rounder, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The price reflects the importance of stabilizing an offensive line disrupted by injuries.
The Ravens had placed three centers on injured reserve and turned to rookie guard Vega Ioane at center. Ioane handled the assignment against Tennessee, but Baltimore had started a different offensive line combination in three consecutive games. Jurgens
offers an experienced option at the position and will let Ioane return to guard.
That potential improvement extends beyond one starting spot. More continuity inside could help Baltimore protect Jackson, create running lanes for Henry and reduce the need to keep rearranging personnel. For an offense with championship ambitions, establishing a dependable combination is a significant step.
Still, acquiring Jurgens and fielding a healthy, cohesive line are separate challenges. Jurgens is reportedly in the concussion protocol, making his availability another consideration before Baltimore can evaluate its new lineup.
Jackson’s ankle remains the more consequential concern. He completed 15 of 20 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns before missing the second half of Baltimore’s 24-18 victory over Tennessee. The Ravens led 24-7 at halftime but failed to score after the break, with their first four second-half possessions ending in punts.
The injury changed that game, but Baltimore’s trouble sustaining offense also requires attention. The Ravens need to finish drives and maintain pressure on opponents after building a lead. Improved blocking can help; it cannot guarantee better execution or more effective adjustments. Neither does the trade resolve Baltimore’s penalty problem. The Ravens committed 13 penalties for 131 yards against Tennessee, repeatedly shrinking their margin for error. Those mistakes can undermine an offense regardless of who starts at center.
Tackle health remains another condition. Ronnie Stanley returned against Tennessee after missing a game with a toe injury. Jurgens strengthens the interior, but Baltimore still needs dependable edge protection.
The Ravens now have a stronger path to a championship-caliber offensive line. Turning that possibility into a Super Bowl run will require a healthy Jackson, fewer penalties, and an offense that can sustain its explosive production and playmaking ability through four quarters.
