Sunday Night Football often comes down to stars making star plays, especially during crunch time. The Baltimore Ravens understand that reality as well as anyone. They've spent the first month of the season leaning on explosive performances from Lamar Jackson, Derrick Henry, Zay Flowers, and a defense that has delivered timely stops.
Week 5, however, presents a different challenge. Jackson is expected to miss this one and may miss multiple games. The Atlanta Falcons enter this matchup with momentum and a growing belief that they belong among the NFC's contenders. They've won consecutive games, have one of the NFL's stingiest run defenses, and feature several young stars who can change a game in an instant.
Whether Lamar Jackson plays or Tyler Huntley
gets the call, Baltimore's path to victory begins with limiting Atlanta's biggest playmakers. Here are five Falcons the Ravens must keep quiet in primetime. Doing so would go a long way towards authoring a successful evening.
Michael Penix Jr., quarterback
Atlanta's offense begins with its young quarterback. Michael Penix Jr. has looked increasingly comfortable as he has progressed through two starts. He has a 113.1 passer rating, throwing for 479 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
More importantly, the Falcons have won both games. Penix has shown confidence attacking downfield and the poise to operate in high-pressure situations. Baltimore's defense can't let him settle into a rhythm early. The Ravens have discussed improving their pass-rush coordination throughout the week, and Sunday's game offers another chance to prove they've made progress.
Bijan Robinson, running back
Some running backs move the chains. Bijan Robinson changes games. Atlanta's offensive centerpiece can turn a routine carry into a highlight-reel touchdown at any moment. His vision, acceleration, and open-field creativity make him one of the NFL's most dangerous offensive weapons.
The Ravens' run defense has improved in recent weeks, but Robinson presents a different type of challenge. He needs few opportunities to make a major impact. Baltimore must stay disciplined in its gap assignments and prevent explosive runs that flip field position.
Drake London, wide receiver
If Penix has a favorite target, it's easy to identify who it is. Drake London leads Atlanta in nearly every major receiving category. He has been targeted 26 times, catching 20 passes for 370 yards. He also leads the Falcons with 201 yards after the catch and 15 first downs.
The one category missing from his résumé is touchdowns. Baltimore would prefer that remain the case for at least another week. The Ravens' secondary has shown flashes of dominance this season, but they've also allowed several frustrating explosive plays. Limiting London's opportunities will be one of the defense's top priorities.
Xavier Watts, safety
Atlanta's defense features several intriguing pieces, but Xavier Watts has become one of its most versatile playmakers. The safety seems to appear everywhere. He has certainly dented most of the defensive stat sheet. He has already totaled 24 tackles, a half-sack, a pass breakup, an interception, and a forced fumble this season.
Players like Watts often impact games in subtle ways. One timely turnover, one blitz, or one perfectly timed tackle can completely change momentum. Baltimore's offense must know where he is at all times.
Harold Perkins Jr., linebacker
The early returns have been encouraging. Harold Perkins Jr. has quickly become a contributor for Atlanta's defense, recording 18 tackles, a half-sack, and a pass breakup through the season's first month.
His speed and athleticism allow him to impact multiple phases of the game. Whether he's chasing ball carriers, blitzing quarterbacks, or dropping into coverage, Perkins has already shown why the Falcons were excited to add him to their defense. The Ravens have dealt with enough offensive disruptions this season. The last thing they need is another emerging defender making Sunday night difficult.
Atlanta's roster features plenty of recognizable names, but that's true across the NFL. Winning often comes down to preventing great players from taking over critical moments. Penix, Robinson, London, Watts, and Perkins can do that.
If Baltimore can limit those five Falcons, the Ravens will have an excellent chance to leave Sunday Night Football with a statement road win. If not, Atlanta has enough star power to make life uncomfortable for any opponent.
