The Baltimore Ravens
are moving on from one of their 2026 draft picks as they continue trimming the roster to the NFL-mandated 53-player limit. Baltimore is releasing rookie defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The former Michigan standout joined the Ravens as a seventh-round pick but faced a difficult path to the initial roster because of the team’s depth along the defensive line.Benny entered training camp competing for one of the final spots in a veteran-heavy position group. Nnamdi Madubuike and Travis Jones are established starters, while Calais Campbell, Broderick Washington and John Jenkins gave Baltimore several experienced options on the interior.

The Ravens also had to consider how many defensive linemen they could keep while preserving roster spots at other competitive positions. Benny displayed enough power and athletic ability to remain an intriguing developmental prospect, but he was unable to separate himself from the more experienced options ahead of him.
Because Benny is a rookie, he will be subject to the waiver process. Baltimore could attempt to bring him back on the practice squad if he clears waivers and remains available. The move does not necessarily end Benny’s time with the organization. The Ravens have routinely used the practice squad to continue developing young defensive linemen who were not ready for immediate roles.
For now, Baltimore’s decision provides additional clarity along the defensive front as general manager Eric DeCosta and coach Jesse Minter work through the final roster decisions.
