Rashod Bateman got the expanded opportunity Baltimore expected when Zay Flowers was out. He responded with his most productive performance in more than a year. Bateman caught seven of nine targets for 88 yards and a touchdown during the Ravens’ 24-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints. His yardage total surpassed his best performance from the entire 2025 season. The final result overshadowed an encouraging afternoon for a receiving corps that entered Sunday without its most explosive player. Flowers was ruled out with a hamstring injury after producing 150 yards in Baltimore’s season opener.
Bateman became Lamar Jackson’s most dependable outside target. He consistently created separation at the intermediate level, found openings against zone coverage
and helped the Ravens overcome several unfavorable down-and-distance situations.
His 18-yard reception erased some of the damage from consecutive penalties during a third-quarter possession. He also provided Baltimore’s only receiving touchdown and finished with a team-high 12.6 yards per catch. Mark Andrews supplied six receptions for 49 yards, while Devontez Walker produced a 47-yard catch. No other Ravens receiver caught more than one pass.
Bateman’s performance proved Baltimore has a receiver who can handle increased volume when Flowers is unavailable. The next step is sustaining that production after the circumstances change and Flowers is back in the lineup. The Ravens did not win, and the passing game disappeared when Baltimore needed a fourth-quarter response. That will keep Bateman’s afternoon from feeling complete.
Still, Baltimore entered Sunday needing someone to accept the responsibilities normally carried by Flowers. Bateman did more than occupy those snaps. He produced like a legitimate featured receiver.
