The Baltimore Ravens entered the season expecting to compete for an AFC North championship. Nine games later, the organization faces a considerably more uncomfortable question: Is it time to become a seller before the NFL trade deadline?
Baltimore's 33-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night extended its losing streak to four games and dropped the Ravens to 4-5. The offense failed to reach 100 net passing yards, the defense surrendered another collection of explosive plays, and All-Pro safety Kyle Hamilton exited with a hip injury.
With Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley on injured reserve, Baltimore's immediate quarterback future is uncertain. The Ravens are also reportedly finalizing a trade to acquire veteran Jacoby Brissett from
Arizona, indicating that the organization has not abandoned its pursuit of a playoff berth.
But with the NFL trade deadline scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 4 p.m. ET, general manager Eric DeCosta faces some difficult decisions.
Ravens' problems extend well beyond quarterback.
Losing Jackson would create problems for any NFL offense, but Baltimore's struggles cannot be attributed entirely to injuries. The Ravens have surrendered 104 points during their past three games and have repeatedly failed to prevent explosive passing plays. Jacksonville quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw for 242 yards and a touchdown Thursday, while the Jaguars completed passes of 52 and 50 yards during the first half.
Baltimore also continues to struggle with discipline. The Ravens committed seven penalties against Jacksonville, including several false starts that disrupted their offensive possessions.
Even if Brissett stabilizes the passing game, the defensive problems and recurring mistakes threaten to prevent a meaningful turnaround.
Which Ravens should be considered trade candidates?
Baltimore should not begin dismantling its roster simply because of one disappointing stretch. However, the organization must evaluate veterans who might not fit its long-term plans, particularly players with expiring contracts or limited roles.
Moving a veteran whose future in Baltimore is already uncertain could create additional draft capital and help the team address offseason weaknesses.
The Ravens should approach such decisions carefully. Players such as Hamilton, Derrick Henry, and other established contributors remain important pieces of the team's identity, and moving productive veterans without meaningful compensation would create additional problems.
Baltimore must also consider how much value it can realistically recover in a market where contending teams often prioritize affordable, controllable players.
Jacoby Brissett trade suggests the Ravens still believe
The pending acquisition of Brissett complicates the idea of becoming a seller. Baltimore appears determined to remain competitive while Jackson recovers, and adding an experienced quarterback would give the offense a better chance to operate effectively. The Ravens also have time to recover in the standings, although their upcoming schedule leaves little margin for additional losses.
The more sensible approach might be a selective reset rather than a complete sell-off. Baltimore can remain competitive while considering offers for veterans who are unlikely to be part of its long-term plans.
Thursday's loss should not force an emotional reaction, but it should prompt an honest assessment of the roster.
The Ravens have four consecutive defeats, a losing record, and multiple significant injuries. With the trade deadline approaching, Baltimore must decide whether chasing a playoff berth is worth sacrificing opportunities to strengthen its future.
