didn't travel to Minnesota looking for comfort. They came searching for answers. Joint practices often provide NFL teams with an opportunity to break the monotony of training camp, but they also serve a more important purpose. They expose players to unfamiliar opponents, different coaching philosophies, and schemes that can reveal strengths and weaknesses before the regular season begins.For Baltimore's offense, Wednesday's practice delivered exactly that. The Ravens' first joint session with the Minnesota Vikings ended with the opponent dominating some two-minute work. Derrick Henry was made available to the media shortly afterward, and as he spoke with reporters, he explained why the work proved so valuable.
"We just wanted
to come out here and just get better. [We wanted to] get some good work in against a good Vikings defense that throws a lot at you. [There is] a lot of stuff we can learn from, a lot of stuff we can improve on from today, , but we just want to come out here and execute what was called as an offense and go out here and make plays, fly around and also have fun."
Henry's comments echoed those of head coach Jesse Minter, who also spoke with media members and praised Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores as one of the league's premier defensive minds. Flores has built his reputation on pressure, disguises, and forcing offenses into quick decisions. That style creates challenges. It also creates opportunities. For much of training camp, Baltimore's offense has spent its time facing familiar defenders. There is value in those repetitions, but eventually offenses begin anticipating what they will see from teammates they face every day.
The Ravens learn valuable lessons before the games count
Joint practices change that dynamic. The Vikings presented new looks, different tendencies, and a defense capable of forcing Baltimore's offense out of its comfort zone. Henry welcomed that challenge.
"It is always good to go against another jersey and get some good work in. The Vikings are a great organization. [It is] good work against a good defense that gives you different looks, to see where you are at as an offense."
The veteran running back wasn't interested in declaring victory after one practice. In fact, his assessment was noticeably balanced. Henry acknowledged there were positive moments, but he also emphasized that the offense left the field with plenty to correct. That perspective is exactly why teams value these sessions.
The Ravens' goal isn't winning practice.
Training camp evaluations can become distorted when every rep is viewed through the lens of winning or losing. Coaches often care more about identifying problems than celebrating successes. Henry's comments reflected that mindset.
"We have been going against each other for the last two-and-a-half weeks, so it is always good to go against another jersey and get some good work in. Like I said, [the] facility is nice. [The Minnesota] Vikings are a great organization. It is my second time actually having a scrimmage against them. Then, just to get some good work in against a good defense that gives you different looks, to see where you are at as an offense, and [there is] a lot of stuff to build off of and a lot of stuff to work on."
That may not be the most glamorous takeaway from a joint practice, but it is often the most useful one. The Ravens already know they possess talent. They already know Lamar Jackson can create explosive plays and that Henry remains one of the league's most dangerous runners. What they need to discover in August are the cracks that opponents might try to exploit in September.
Minnesota helped provide some of those answers. That is what made Wednesday valuable. The Vikings didn't simply give Baltimore a different opponent. They gave the Ravens an offense-wide stress test, forcing players to react to unfamiliar pressure, adjust on the fly, and evaluate where improvement is still needed. For a team with championship aspirations, those lessons may ultimately prove far more valuable than anything that appears on a preseason scoreboard.
