Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers gave everything he had in his tank to help the team defeat the Atlanta Falcons 30-23 in Week 5 on Sunday Night Football. The bright lights of Mercedes-Benz Stadium didn't distract Flowers from his craft; instead, they shone a national spotlight on his undeniable skill.
Flowers operated as a running back out of the backfield, the primary boundary, and the field receiver in offensive coordinator Declan Doyle's design Sunday night. Flowers also drew a crucial late-game pass interference penalty on Falcons safety Xavier Watts, who couldn't contain Flowers on a broken play. Still, the best indicator of Flowers is how efficient he has been when targeted this season. Flowers caught eight of nine targets for
53 yards. Ravens wide receiver Rashod Bateman caught five passes for 62 yards. Devontez Walker made a sure-handed touchdown reception in the fourth quarter, helping his team secure the tie on the two-point conversion a play later.
Flowers is leading the Ravens wide receiver room by example, and his impact is motivating other pass catchers on the depth chart. Flowers currently ranks No. 7 in the NFL in receiving yards among other premier wideouts and tight ends. Flowers will look to replicate that success and help the Ravens beat the Cleveland Browns this upcoming weekend at Huntington Bank Field.
