Former Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker is receiving interest from a team that remains unsettled at the position entering the regular season. The New York Jets brought Tucker, Michael Badgley and Josh Karty in for workouts Wednesday, according to Jordan Schultz.
A workout does not guarantee that New York will sign one of the three kickers. The Jets recently claimed Blake Grupe off waivers and retained veteran Jason Sanders on their practice squad, but their decision to evaluate additional options suggests the competition remains open.
Grupe appears positioned to begin the season as New York’s kicker after the Jets claimed him from the Indianapolis Colts. Sanders initially won a preseason competition with Cade York but was released after missing
an extra point and a 54-yard field-goal attempt in the finale. He subsequently returned on the practice squad.
Tucker is the most accomplished player involved in the workout. The eight-time All-Pro spent 13 seasons with Baltimore and established himself as one of the most successful kickers in NFL history. He converted several of the most significant field goals in franchise history and helped the Ravens win Super Bowl XLVII.
Badgley offers extensive regular-season experience, while Karty entered the league as a sixth-round selection by the Los Angeles Rams in 2024.
New York’s decision could depend on performance, experience and the ability to handle difficult weather conditions later in the season. Tucker built his reputation by making high-pressure kicks and connecting from extended distances, although his accuracy became less consistent during the final stage of his Baltimore tenure.
