Baltimore Ravens rookie wide receiver Elijah Sarratt could be called up for game action in the Week 2 matchup against the New Orleans Saints this weekend. Sarratt's skill is undeniable, and he'll likely be ready for the big stage, given his familiarity with M&T Bank Stadium from his high school days.
The competence and competition within the Ravens wide receiver room caused Sarratt to fade into the shadows in the media. Sarratt simply became an afterthought given the prowess of rookie wide receiver Ja'Kobi Lane throughout training camp. Yet, Sarratt's talents can be more than serviceable if his number is called this weekend.
Veteran wide receiver Rashod Bateman did not record a single reception in the Week 1 victory over the Indianapolis Colts,
and he was only targeted once. Plus, with wide receiver Zay Flowers still listed as doubtful, Bateman might be called to play at No. 1 on the team depth chart. With Bateman likely covered by the Saints' top defensive backs, Sarratt, Devontez Walker, and LaJohntay Wester could all operate in favorable matchups for quarterback Lamar Jackson on Sunday.
With offensive coordinator DeClan Doyle dedicated to running the football with running back Derrick Henry and Jackson, Sarratt won't need to be Superman if his jersey number is called. However, in personnel sets that give Jackson optionality at wideout, Sarratt could see a few targets in the upcoming contest. Doyle would certainly take great pleasure in letting his rookie prove himself in front of fans who watched him emerge from his adolescence. Thus, Sarratt is hoping to come out of the shadows and show the world why he belongs in the NFL.
