John Harbaugh’s is in a bind, and the question has to be asked. Could his former team have interest in parting with assets? Harbaugh's search for another Giants quarterback naturally raises a question about his former team. The Ravens have two quarterbacks behind Lamar Jackson, and each would offer New York something different.
Tyler Huntley has NFL starting experience and spent years in Baltimore while Harbaugh coached the Ravens. That familiarity makes him an understandable name to consider if the Giants want a veteran who could provide better production than Jameis Winston. Trading Huntley, however, would leave Baltimore relying on rookie Joe Fagnano as Jackson’s immediate backup.
Fagnano presents the opposite calculation. The undrafted rookie
earned a spot on the Ravens’ active roster after completing 56 of 75 preseason passes for 509 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said the team received trade interest before choosing to keep him. Those earlier inquiries show that other clubs noticed his preseason; they do not establish that the Giants were among them.
Baltimore’s decision to keep three quarterbacks also suggests it values the insurance and Fagnano’s development. New York would need to make an offer strong enough to change that assessment. The Giants have Winston as QB1 and Jake Haener on their practice squad, so they can weigh a trade against less costly ways to add depth.
The Giants have no reported contact with Baltimore about Huntley or Fagnano. Harbaugh’s familiarity makes the Ravens worth watching as his search develops, but a potential fit is still a long way from a deal.
