The Baltimore Ravenshave only scratched the surface of training camp, but every summer amplifies the volume around a few unexpected names who force their way into roster conversations. They often do so through consistent play rather than draft pedigree or reputation. Cornerback Keyon Martin appears to be doing exactly that.
Martin added another interception during the Ravens' practice at Maryland's SECU Stadium, continuing an impressive stretch that has drawn praise from both head coach Jesse Minter and franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson. More importantly, both described qualities that extend beyond a single highlight.
Coach Minter spoke with media members as part of the day's activities. When asked about Martin's early performance, the defensive
play caller pointed to the consistency behind the splash plays.
"[Keyon Martin]'s a competitor. He studies the game. He is in the right spot. He's sticky in coverage. He's had a really good couple days. He had a really good day yesterday down in the red zone and another good day today."
Minter also emphasized the importance of stacking productive practices, adding that consistency "goes a long way," particularly for younger players trying to establish themselves.

Later in the day, Lamar Jackson echoed many of those same observations when asked about the young defensive back.
"Man, Keyon Martin has got a knack for the ball. He's a guy that's hungry. He wants to be on the field. He wants to be a difference maker for the defense. He's like a little gnat out there. He is going to come up and try to make some tackles. He does what a nickel is supposed to do."
It's one thing for a head coach to recognize a young player's development. It's another when the franchise quarterback also identifies him as someone who consistently shows up around the football.
That doesn't guarantee Martin a roster spot or a significant defensive role. The starting lineup appears to be set. Reserve roles are where the job openings are. Still, the Ravens are early in training camp, and Minter has repeatedly cautioned against overreacting to a handful of practices.
Martin is accomplishing exactly what every player fighting for a role hopes to do: giving the coaching staff more reasons to keep evaluating him. Training camp roster battles are often decided long before the final preseason game. They're built one practice at a time, one opportunity at a time, and one impression after another. Through the opening days of camp, Martin is creating enough positive impressions to become one of the more intriguing names worth monitoring as Baltimore's roster begins to take shape.
