Ethan Burke has earned a place on the Baltimore Ravens’ initial 53-man roster after turning an undrafted opportunity into a preseason success story, according to The Baltimore Sun’s Brian Wacker.
The rookie outside linebacker consistently found ways to affect games. Burke finished the preseason with six tackles, two forced fumbles, two pass breakups, two quarterback hits and one sack. His length, effort and ability to disrupt passing lanes helped him stand out in a competitive edge group. Burke’s rise continues Baltimore’s reputation for identifying and developing undrafted talent. He arrived from Texas without the security of a draft selection, then used training camp and exhibition games to show that he deserved more than a practice-squad opportunity.

Keeping Burke on the active roster also prevents another team from claiming him on waivers. The decision further clarifies Baltimore’s outside-linebacker picture after the reported release of Kaimon Rucker, who could return on the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Burke likely will begin his career as a rotational defender and special-teams contributor. His production, however, suggests potential for a larger role. For now, Burke has accomplished his first goal: earning a place on Baltimore’s roster.
