The Baltimore Ravens did more than reward Zay Flowers with his four-year, $140 million extension. They provided Lamar Jackson with long-term continuity at the most important position in the team’s passing game.
Flowers has become Jackson’s most consistent wide receiver, recording consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and earning two Pro Bowl selections. His speed, change-of-direction ability and versatility allow Baltimore to move him across formations and create favorable matchups without removing its most dangerous receiver from the field.
The Ravens guaranteed $108 million in the agreement, demonstrating that they view Flowers as a permanent part of their offensive structure. His $35 million annual average ties Justin Jefferson for fourth among the league’s
highest-paid receivers. Baltimore has frequently changed offensive coordinators and reconstructed the supporting cast around Jackson. Flowers’ extension gives the quarterback a proven target who already understands his timing, improvisational ability and tendencies outside the original play design.

That familiarity should be particularly valuable as offensive coordinator Declan Doyle installs his system. Head coach Jesse Minter has said the Ravens want to get Flowers the ball in as many ways as possible, using his ability to play outside, in the slot and on designed touches. The extension does not guarantee Baltimore will produce an elite passing offense. It does ensure the Ravens will not lose their best receiver while attempting to build one.
Jackson has spent much of his career elevating an evolving group of pass catchers. Flowers’ deal gives him something different: a Pro Bowl receiver expected to remain beside him for the prime years of his career.
