The Ravens conducted Cam Jurgens
’ physical in Philadelphia before completing their trade with the Eagles, allowing Baltimore to evaluate the center’s health while keeping the negotiations quiet. According to The Ringer's Tom Pelissero, the arrangement also limited Jurgens’ travel while he remained in the concussion protocol. Surgery in February 2025 to alleviate nerve pain was performed by a top physician, Dr. Robert Watkins. Jurgens has acknowledged that the aftermath
of that injury affected him throughout the 2025 season. But after traveling to Colombia for stem cell treatment this past February, Jurgens started the first four games this season without issue until the concussion. Baltimore—which nixed the Maxx Crosby trade earlier this year because of medical concerns—got a good look at Jurgens as part of the physical and felt confident about his future.
The process carried added significance for a team that backed out of a trade for Maxx Crosby earlier this year because of medical concerns. This time, the Ravens completed their examination before the deal became public.
Jurgens underwent surgery in February 2025 to address nerve pain and has acknowledged that the aftermath affected him throughout that season. Pelissero reported that Jurgens also traveled to Colombia for stem cell treatment this past February. He started Philadelphia’s first four games this season before entering the concussion protocol.
Baltimore’s medical review and Jurgens’ concussion clearance remain separate steps. The physical helped the Ravens decide whether to acquire him; he still must clear the protocol before taking the field.
The Ravens sent Philadelphia a 2028 second-round pick, a 2027 fifth-round pick, and a 2027 seventh-round pick for Jurgens. By conducting the physical in Philadelphia, Baltimore addressed a central concern before committing that draft capital.
