Hendrickson recently became the latest player to offer insight into Weaver's impact. The veteran edge rusher spoke with reportersfollowing Baltimore's joint practice with the Washington Commandersand was asked about his relationship
with Weaver.
Naturally, no one expected Hendrickson to provide blow-by-blow details of everything he discusses with his DC at practice, but Hendrickson did offer something intriguing. He stated that while many defensive coordinators operate from a big-picture perspective, Weaver's background as a former defensive lineman allows him to provide hands-on coaching that continues to benefit even experienced players.
"Sure, Anthony Weaver is very wise when it comes to defensive line and scheme. Not to say that he doesn't know an entire defense — he is incredibly knowledgeable. But for him to give me another opinion on where my hands are, what games we are running or where I should attack the offensive tackle, it has been really fun to have him at an elite level still be able to shadow the outside linebacker room."
The quote offers an interesting glimpse into why Weaver has become so popular inside Baltimore's locker room. Game plans, meetings, and the management of an entire unit often consume coordinators. Weaver certainly handles those responsibilities, but Hendrickson's comments suggest he remains deeply involved in the technical aspects of player development.
